Turning and quilting

I have been looking for a place to put Wayne and my crafts we would like to sell.

Bowl A  JUNIPER 8.75 inches x6 inches tall
is $55.
Bowl B is Russian Olive 7.5 in across x 3 inches high.  $30.
Bowl C is 6 inches across x2.25 inches high  Juniper $25.

The small bowls are $15. Juniper E F and G.     D and H are elm.

The set of Juniper salt and pepper shakers is $50.   The other photo of misc. Is $15.

Time to start a new blog for my trip to Charlotte N.C.  If I can remember how this works. 
This is only a test.

Home

We got in about 10:00 last night.  We left at 8:00 yesterday morning.  Not many people can stretch that trip to 14 hrs. LOL  We stopped at a bakery on the coast, we stopped for breakfast, stopped for gas, 2 or 3 stops for Wayne's water pills to work.   Stopped for lunch, another rest stop, stopped for gas in Bend, another rest stop.  Stopped in Burns and had some supper, and made it in late. Our car made about 29 miles to the gallon, but he kept topping it off so he could use the restrooms hehehehe.  May I mention my car seats are not so comfortable either.

My grandson did an awesome job, everything looks good.  The cats only drug 1 bird in the cat door and ate it in the middle of the living room.  They are so sweet.

Check back from time to time I may add more later in the summer.  Now I do laundry.

Last Full Day

It has gone so fast, but it looks like tomorrow we will start home.  Probably do it in one day like when we came.  Due to the construction in Portland, I think we will go down to Newport and across.  Then thru Bend.
 
I said they had a lot of dogs around here.  As time is winding down, I realize I could have written a book on dogs and their owners.  Like the one family with a large Golden Retriever, a Boston Bulldog, a Jack Russell Terrier and a little mixed breed.  Yea imagine this pack running on the beach and the retriever running headlong into the surf and the little terrier on his heels.  If I weren't one of them I would have to say people are stupid about their dogs. 

Oh by the way little short legged Pugsley has learned to do stairs.  We have 2 flights up to our room and I got tired of carrying him.

What day is this? I don't care.

I'm up awful early this morning. Don't feel sorry for me, I slept all afternoon, and then went to bed before dark. So I think I'm rested

We had the best fish and chips yesterday in Bay City. Little spot called "The Landing" that a local told us about. We bought some cod for tonight's supper, so crab will be one more day out.

Did I mention I bumped my toe. Might be broke but what could you do for it anyway. It is blacker than the photo shows this morning.



Today, I'd like to run up to Wheeler to the quilt shop and get some material for my in progress quilt. I'll see. They have a huge antique store next door......:)

Lazin around

A late morning, and just listening to the surf outside the sliding door.  Wayne said what do you want to do, and I said REST.

 This is the doggonedes place.  Everyone has a dog, and the management is dog friendly.  They go down the path to the beach in packs.  I let Pugsley off the leash this morning and he just ran and ran and played.  He even came back.

You should always pick up your feet when climbing concrete steps.  You can really hurt little barefoot toes.  (take it from one who knows.

May go get some fresh crab for supper later.

WE'RE HERE

We left about 9 this morning.  We didn't hurry, hit almost every rest stop, Lol Wayne's waterpills were working fine.  Pugsley enjoyed stopping a lot too.

We found the recreators along the Columbia River very interesting. Kite surfing and wind surfing with sail boards.  Didn't get very good pics.

 We were very happy to get into our room a day early.  It was about 9:00, (road construction in Portland) and we were getting pretty tired.  Room is more than I had hoped for, a corner room with a view of the ocean in 2 directions.

Going to the Oregon Coast

Thought I would start up my blog again.

We are planning on leaving, probably Sunday. Our reservations are for Monday night, but I like the idea of toodling along and stopping where we want and spending the night.
I'm anxious to get away, but a little apprehensive about leaving everything to dry up. We have the yard looking pretty good, flowers are blooming and the garden is starting to produce. If I can get a grandson to water things, it should help, although I know he will do it hit and miss, probably mostly miss.

There's No Place LIke Home

We're home! We made it in last night about 10:00. We still hadn't decided what to do when we got to Yakima. We were used to someone else just taking us someplace. lol All the cats were still here. Stupid cats, I left their feeder full and the cat food sack tore open. They have a cat door to come and go. When we came in they all ran to the empty feeder. The bag sat right there, but they were too good to grub out of the bag.
We ate a very nice supper at Baker, got revived, and made it in. My bed felt good, although I had no complaints with any beds I slept in.
If you're following this, I will say that I'm thru with the trip and my life is too boring to daily blog. I will post the site where we will put all pictures. So check back to find it.

Sunday morning in Seattle

Well, I was up at 7:00 Seattle time. This is really a nice hotel. The room is big clean and the internet is fast! It is 4 blocks from Microscoft headquarters , and I assume there are lots of computer big wigs stay here.
Last night we were picked up by "Fred", and his wife, and met Patricia and her husband for dinner. These are friends I went to school with 42 years ago. We went to the Coho restaurant and had sea food. It was really good, and probably our last chance for something other than beef for a long time. We returned to Fred's beautiful home for dessert, and a lot of talking about remember when, and remember so and so. The funny thing is, that Wayne and Fred spent a lot of time together hangin out too, so we all enjoyed ourselves.
We are still in limbo. Not really wanting to head home, but to much trouble to go anywhere.
We will be somewhere tonight I'm sure.

Feet on the solid

Well, we arrived in Seattle early and left the ship about 8:30. We were delayed only by the speed we could walk and drag our luggage. We got a taxi, cost $11 for the ride. We made it back to The Sixth Ave Inn with no problems. We went directly to our car and OH! OH! We were parked next to Cadillac's and fancy new cars. Yea they picked our window to smash in! Maybe they saw our cassette player or the sunglasses in the jockey box. Hot stuff! They didn't take anything, but the passenger window was gone. The hotel had found it, and put plastic over it. They were so sorry, but wouldn't offer any compensation. They did find us a glass repair shop and we had it fixed in about 2 hours. $188. my deductible is $120.
We are now at the Silver Cloud Inn in Redmond, Wa. We will meet Fred and Pat for dinner later this afternoon.
We missed our carriage ride in Victoria. We got there late and it was cancelled. We didn't even leave the ship, because it was such a long way to town, and cold and rainy. Some folks said they wish their tours had been cancelled because it was too dark by 7:30 to see anything anyway.

We're back to Seattle. Will give details of eventful arrival when we get to motel.

Leaving Ketchikan

We rode the duck and saw Ketchikan. Need to get onboard before they leave us in 45 min.hmmmmmmmmmm? Decisions decisions.

Ketchikan

Sitka, Wednesday

We went ashore to Sitka about 11:00 via a “tender”. It was raining real hard.
We found free internet at the library again, so we used that. We were even able to get a few pictures out today.
When we finished in about 45 min, the sun had came out, and we walked around town.
Sitka is a small town, it didn't take long. The shops are all very boutiquiy with hand made local items. Very spendy, and stuff I can do with out. It has a lot of Russian heritage and there is a lot of that, and hand made soaps, kelp pickles and salmon berry jelly. Fur shops, and tours to go out on boats and see the wild life.
We ate some samplings of shrimp, salmon, and halibut from a street vendor in front of a fish market. Very good. It was across the street the the large Russian Orthodox Church, that had been built by the Russians many years ago, but burned down and had been rebuilt. We took a picture, but didn't do the tour. I found a fabric (quilt) store and bought a few pieces with whales and dolphins. It was starting to rain so we went back boarded the “tender” and returned to the ship.(If we get pictures to go thru, I will include one of a "tender").
Tonight is the second formal night. Wayne is going to wear his new “Jerry Garcia” tie, we'll get a picture. This is also lobster night.

Well, I just returned to the room from a 60's show of singing and dancing (with go go boots). It was fair, dinner was really nice had a table with 3 other couples. We had lobster tail and steak, it was very enjoyable. Ship's photograper took our photo again. I purchased the other one of formal night and said I wouldn't buy anymore. If they're not good it will save me $35. Haha
I'm ready for bed, we will dock in Ketchikan at 7:00 am and ride the amphibious "duck" at 10:00. We have to be back on board by a little after noon, so will have to go early to find a library or cybercafe to get this out before 10:00.
We will not try to post anything on Friday, because it will be late when we get into Victoria, and were not going to even try to find an internet.

Second installment, still cruising!



Monday in Juneau, 4:00 p.m.

Wayne and I went ashore and used the free internet at Juneau library and sent out my first blog from Alaska. It was without pictures and I thought we were going to grow old waiting for Wayne to send a video on his. He finally canceled it and just sent the message. We are so spoiled with our internet service at home.
Wayne has got a full blown cold, and I feel so bad, because I was so careful so he wouldn't catch it.
We took the Mt Roberts Tram to the top and back. A spectacular view, but they have you captive with restaurants and gift shops. They have an injured eagle called “Lady Baltimore” for people to see, kinda of interesting to see one up close. I feel the way they shoved us all in that little tram, standing, then put in 4 more, and shut the door, that it really wasn't that enjoyable. Maybe it was worth $27 a person, I don't know.
I hit the the t-shirt shops and another little shop while Wayne returned to the ship. They have everything 50% off and more, since there is only about 1 more week to their season. I found a few good buys, but what a mad house. 5 ships in port today.
I made it back on board, Wayne is thinking of dinner in the room, he is laying down. That is fine with me, because we are just eating together anyway, no tablemates.
Today the weather in Juneau was beautiful and everyone was shedding their coats. I think ketchikan and Sitka will have rain, but that's OK.

Tuesday headed for Glacier Bay

Wayne and I both awoke at 5:00 this morning. We were able to get coffee, but were almost coffee logged by the time rolls came out.
As it started to turn light, we saw the the snow covered mountains on the side of the ship and it was beautiful. Of course, we left the camera in the room.
I have noticed the smoker's have one of the best social groups on board. They all congregate on the back deck and smoke and visit. Wayne really enjoys it. I can't stand to be out in the cold for long so I haven't met many people. I feel kinda like I've missed out there.
We are now pulling out of Glacier Bay, the huge glaciers were magnificent. Really a good day too, the captain said it is one of the best days they have had in the Bay all summer. Leaving as late as we did in the season, I feared we'd have real bad weather. Sitka tomorrow, and Ketchikan the next day, still time for pouring rain.
We requested and got table mates, they were very nice, and from Louisville, Ky. The problem is they will not be back to the dining room until Friday when we will be in Victoria. So I talked to someone and we should be at a table for 8 tonight, second formal night.
We went to a show last night, first time. The beginning was a married couple game with three couples, and the oldest had been married 68 years. He was a Pearl Harbour survivor, and he stole the show. When ask if there was anything he did that annoyed his wife, he said “everything.”

Wednesday this is SITKA

We are at Sitka this morning and it is pouring rain. We will have to ride a tender in, since they don't dock cruise ships. We are in no hurry, and have nothing other than sightseeing planned. It might stop raining in a few hours, if not, oh well.
We are going to look for a cybercafe to send our blogs. If they're fast we will send a few pictures.

We left home at about 6:00 a.m. We made 3 rest stops, 1 stop for breakfast at McDonald's drive thru in LaGrande, Or. and lunch stop in Prosser, Wa. We made it into Seattle a little before 3:00 our time and got into our motel, the Sixth Ave Inn with no problems.
Our motel was very nice, although it was older we found no fault with it. It was clean, service was great and we had a nice view of Seattle buildings. When you're from the country in Idaho, it is a fun change from the cows and the mountains, although I would not want it everyday.
At 6:00 Seattle time, we had friends Jacquie and Mark Rodgers take us for a drive around Seattle. (Our car is now parked at the hotel for 7 days) They took us to the “Chinook” for supper, a really nice restaurant on a fishing boat inlet with a great view and even better sea food. We saw the crabbing boat from the TV show the “Deadliest Catch” which was moored there.
Back to our motel for a some sleep. Tomorrow is the day.

Saturday September 12

We are up and around, enjoy hotel internet, although, Wayne stole all my pictures I wanted for my blog and put them on his, just because he could. HaHa
We enjoyed a very nice complimentary breakfast from the hotel and had the clerk arranged for our free town car to take us to pier 91 at 11:00. They arrived on time, but we met several other couples headed to the same place waiting in the lobby with us, although I've never seen them again.
We made it to the pier and passed through check in quickly, although Wayne had to be wanded in security, it was the foil in his cigarette pkg. We were on board and eating in the Lido buffet by 11:30. One lady at the hotel said we wouldn't be allowed on board until 1:00. I told her I thought we could!!
We had our mandatory life boat drill at 3:15 and were setting sail and saying goodbye to Seattle by 4:00.
The Fontaine Dining Room is beautiful and we had a table on the top landing. We enjoyed Prime rib and a wonderful dinner. Our waiter's name is Sue and the manager is Constantine . They gave us a table for 4 and have seated no one with us. We are very disappointed because dinner with 6 new friends was 1 of the high points of our last cruise.
During dinner, the captain announced a medical situation where a passenger would be taken off the ship near Port Angeles. This did happen and it was interesting to watch the Coast Guard ship trying to get close enough to take him off. I might add that by now the seas were really kicking up. The ship not only was going up and down it would take a sideways flop every third or forth wave.

I made my way to bed shortly after this, feeling indigestion more than sea sickness. I didn't sleep well, and I can tell you it was rough, every once in a while the waves would slap up and fill the recessed port hole above our heads.

Sunday September 13

That's right, by morning I was sick.
My “Motion Ease” that you put behind your ear didn't work, and the ginger gum was just enough to send me to the porcelain god. Wayne got me to go up on deck for tea and crackers, but I soon came back, stopped by the Medical Center and grabbed some free seasick pills. Lots of people there. The nurse said take 1 or if you want to sleep take 2. I took 2, didn't want to stay awake feeling like this. I slept from about 8:00-11:30. I woke feeling pretty good.
I had tea and chicken soup for lunch and wondered around a while. We played name that tune with the piano player, I did awful.
Sunday cont.
We went back to the room and I took 1 more pill, and took a 2 hour nap before dinner.
5:00 we began dressing for formal night. I felt good. We had our picture taken by ship's photographer. (I may go check how they turned out in a bit.)
Wayne had Fillet Minion I had King Crab. We both had shrimp cocktails. It was very good. We had a sugar free apple tart for dessert, but agree Royal Caribbean had better sugar free deserts.
Then I went back to the cabin and went to bed.

Monday September 14

I woke up feeling real good today, went to the Lido Buffet for coffee and breakfast. I took a picture of a couple of the waiters together. They wanted to see it and giggled. They are all so cute and nice.
I might mention our 2 cabin stewards are GG and San. So sweet, the minute you step out they ask if there is anything you need. Yesterday they worried so much about cleaning the cabin, and I was in there sick. I told them not to worry, the minute we stepped out in the afternoon, they had it cleaned. I haven't seen any towel animals yet? That's the least of my worries.
Wayne has found his place on the back upper deck with the smoker's. It is way too cold up there for me, so I don't stay long.
It is about 9:50 now, we arrive in Juneau around 11:00. We have nothing much planned other than riding the Mt Robert's Tram to the top and back. We will probably hit the public library to check out free internet to send blogs. Wayne went on ship internet last night and it cost $17 to send his and he had it all ready to go.
I will check for bargains in ports. I have heard this late in the season they have things for 75% off.
Won't buy any diamonds I'm sure. Supposedly Juneau is a world Market for them.
